All classes are free, and open to 12-20 year old Carpinteria youth. Pre-registration is required.

 Beyond Point & Shoot – A Digital Photography Workshop
Instructor: Ted Rhodes, nationally recognized photographer.

For high school students interested in photography who want to push themselves beyond taking quick “point and shoot” snapshots.  Learn from a professional about lighting, lenses, composition, camera settings and an artistic “attitude” that will make you a better photographer.  Each session will be part classroom and part “hands-on” field trip work where we will have fun shooting the Carpinteria Bluffs and other parts of town.
 Tuesdays & Thursday, July 12, 14, 19. 3- 5 pm. Meet  at  3 pm. Multi-Purpose Room, Carp Public Library.

 Journaling the Journey
 Instructor: Amy Oroczo, local writer & journalist. 

This class is about writing, drawing, coloring, doodling, scribbling, pasting, gluing, binding, cutting, shaping, deciding, dreaming, thinking, and doing. With a focus on print, participants will create a journal with a theme of their choice (diary, school, future plans, family vacation, pets, life on the soccer field, music, etc.). We also will look at new media journals, such as blogs and Facebook. There will be plenty of examples and a short (promise!) history of famous journals. Participants are welcome to share their work or not to share their work. Privacy will be honored.

 Modern Dance
 Instructor: Charis Haines, professional dancer, Riout Dance Company.

Three levels of classes for advanced students (1 -2:30 pm), intermediate students (some dancing experience) 2:30- 4 pm, and beginning students (no experience) 4- 5 pm.

Girls will learn beauty secrets, including Jaqua face masks, hand/foot soaks & scrubs, while exploring the importance of self-respect and confidence.

This class will explore skills to make communication easier and more satisfying. Discussion of healthy relationship skills include assertiveness, negotiation, and compromise.

 Mindfulness-Awareness in Everyday Life
 Instructors: Robert Lehmann & Anne Fraser

Students will learn how to be brave and gentle through sitting meditation, contemplation, standing yoga & awakening the senses. Applying these skills, one can discover that "by simply being on the spot, your life can become workable and even wonderful."

Taught by students of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche & Shambhala.

 Ocean Recreational Activities (Pre-registration required) 

 Kayaking and Stand Up Paddling
Instruction in paddling techniques and exploration of nearby reef and kelp beds. Wetsuits and safety equipment provided. Snorkeling gear available at 25% discount @ Beach Store.

 Learn basic sailing and boating safety.

Intergenerational Ocean Recreation.
